Realtors Endorse Peters for U.S. Senate
Michigan Realtors Praises Peters as Independent-Minded Problem Solver, Fighter for Home Affordability and Middle-Class Families
The Realtors Political Action Committee today endorsed U.S. Senate Candidate Gary Peters, commending Peters on his work to make home ownership affordable for middle class families. Michigan Realtors praised Peters as an independent-minded problem solver who is willing to work with both parties in order to put Michigan middle class families first.
“A fifth generation Michigander, Gary was born and raised in a middle class family and knows first-hand just how important home ownership is to families across Michigan,” said Realtor Nanci Rands. “Gary’s strong Michigan roots and business background make him the kind of independent-minded, common-sense problem solver we so desperately need in Washington. We are proud to endorse Gary Peters for U.S. Senate as the only candidate Michigan middle class families, small businesses, and all the people of Michigan can count on.”
Michigan Realtors represents over 23,000 realtors across the state, and together, provide legal and policy resources and knowledge exchange to realtors that help Michigan families find the perfect home for them. With the help of the Michigan Realtors, Michigan has a higher rate of home ownership than the national average, with over 32,000 homes sold across Michigan so far this year.
“For Michigan middle class families and those aspiring to get there, affordable home ownership is a key part of the American Dream, and I will continue to fight to put our middle class first,” Peters said. “I am humbled by the support of Michigan Realtors who work every day to help make the dream of home ownership a reality for so many Michiganders.”
Peters has made affordable homeownership a major priority. In 2011, he introduced a bipartisan measure with Rep. John Campbell (R-CA) that would reform the mortgage market to make home ownership more affordable to middle class families. The Wall Street Journal said that Peters’ plan “may be the only plan likely to attract sufficient support from both parties…at a time when gridlock looms over issues such as how to curb federal spending.” Most recently, Peters has worked in a bipartisan manner to tackle home ownership affordability, introducing the Sensible Accounting to Value Energy (SAVE) Act, which among other measures will help lower utility fees for homeowners across the country.
